For Pipersberg, sustainability means more than conserving resources. It also encompasses social responsibility and collaboration with partners who share these values. A successful example of this is our cooperation with Stadtwerke Gießen.

Every year, Stadtwerke Gießen replaces around 5,000 water meters as part of the statutory calibration cycle. Instead of sending the removed meters straight for recycling, they are handed over to Pipersberg. Here, they are carefully inspected, technically refurbished and prepared for renewed use. In this way, the measuring devices are given a second life and valuable resources remain in circulation.

For this project, we deliberately paid a higher purchase price for the old meters. This made it possible to increase the donation amount, which Stadtwerke Gießen passed on in full to the Freiwilligenzentrum für Stadt und Landkreis Gießen e. V. (Volunteer Centre for the City and District of Gießen). In this way, every refurbished water meter combines sustainable practice with social commitment.

Every water meter contains valuable raw materials and high-quality components. Professional refurbishment allows existing measuring devices to remain in use. This saves resources, reduces material consumption and avoids the CO₂ emissions that would arise from manufacturing new products. Refurbishment is therefore a key building block of a sustainable circular economy for us, while also offering utility companies an economical and resource-efficient solution.

That is why we continuously take back old meters for refurbishment and support utility companies in designing an economical and sustainable return process. From handling and logistics through to professional refurbishment, we support our partners with our experience every step of the way.
